WONDERFUL MEMORIES (06/23)

One of the happiest times of my life was when I was a oceanfront lifeguard at 21st and 25th streets in Virginia Beach, Virginia. I lifeguarded to earn money for tuition and books when I went to college. No days off, I worked seven days a week and loved every minute of it.

I sat in a life guard stand just like the one you see here and also talked to a few girls on occasion. Well, maybe a little more than a few. On a serious note I made many saves during the six seasons as a lifeguard. One save was during a nor'easter and it was one of the few times I was concerned about my own safety. But my training kicked in, I made the save, and also got myself in safely.

I can't begin to tell you what it meant to be a part of this team. The comradery and the bonds that made us a team are still with me today, now as a Snow Sports Instructor. We worked together, pulled pranks on each other (like the time I dumped a trash can full of garbage on someone's station), and we drank a "few" beers" too. It truly was one of the happiest times of my life. I will never forget the day that I took one of the most beautiful women I have ever met to lunch. As we were walking down Atlantic Avenue, a guy sitting nearby said "Gee it must be great to be a lifeguard." My ego shot through the clouds.
