WHAT IS IT ABOUT TRAINS? (06/10)

Everybody loves trains. Well, maybe not everybody, but I do. There's something magical about them. They appear out of nowhere, and then they disappear to who knows where. And for me, that's the fascination. I love to watch them as they pass by, I love the Doppler Effect of the train whistle, I love feeling the vibration of the wheels beneath my feet, and most of all, I love to photograph them.

Trains span all continents, connecting people with faraway distant lands. Some route are famous such as the Trans-Siberian Express, the Grand Canyon Railway, the Andian Explorer. The list goes on. They are even the subject of novels.

And then there are the trains of yesteryear --- the big steam locomotives. Before Diesel electric motors, these steam giants made their way over the Rocky Mountains to the west coast of the United States. Diesel electrics are more efficient and can haul more freight, but nothing beats the sound of a steam locomotive roaring down the track with its steam whistle. Those were truly the days.

And thus ends my nostalgia for today. I hope you enjoy today's work.
