SIMPLE LIFE (06/09)
Oh I am definitely on a painting kick, can't you tell? As I mentioned before, in my work as a photojournalist, it's get the shot, and get it uploaded --- especially if it's fast breaking news. So when I get the chance to be creative I jump at the opportunity, which this forum lets me do. I get to try new things and express how I see my world. That what the artist side of photography lets you do. It's so much more than "snapping a picture" or "doing a selfie".
Today's work is an oil painting of a cabin located in Christmas, Florida. Yes, there actually is such a place, and Christmas is celebrated year round. In this scene I have tried to convey a time when life was simpler (supposedly) and without all of the electronic doo-dads that we cant' do without today. It was definitely more laid back, the family unit provided structure, kids had chores, and church was often the only social interaction people had. I know this was true for where I live here in Nelson County, Virginia.
